In 2024, I Won’t…But I will.

Now that I’m in my mid-eighties, there are certain things I won’t do again. Because (1) my body can no longer exert itself the way it used to and (2) life has imposed some conditions that make what I used to do difficult to do now. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have things to enjoy doing. It’s a matter of accepting what I WON'T and looking forward to what I WILL.
I won’t be going back to Paris
I won’t be going back to the Cape
But I will be going back to the Berkshires.
I won’t be playing tennis
I won’t be playing frisbee
But I’ll be playing online scrabble with my friends.
I won’t be playing volleyball
I won’t be learning pickleball
But I will be swimming at the JCC.
I won’t be running in the park
I won’t be running up and down the stairs
But I will be walking along Broadway.
I won’t be ice skating in the rink
I won’t be roller skating on the street
But I will be strolling in Riverside Park.
I won’t be doing Yoga
I won’t be doing Pilates
But there’s always Aqua Aerobics.
I won’t be riding a bike
I won’t be taking a hike
But I will be taking naps.
I won’t be rushing to catch a bus
I won’t be rushing to catch a train
But I’ll still be able to hail a cab.
I won’t be dancing at the party
I won’t cheering at the game
But I’ll be singing in the shower.
I won’t be planting a garden
I won’t even be growing herbs
But I will be stopping to smell the roses.
I won’t be young again
I won’t ever be young again
But I will always be younger than tomorrow.
